Where are proceeds being donated?
100% of proceeds from the yoga event will be donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund, established by Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner and County Judge Ed Emmett. The fund is housed at the Greater Houston Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Greater Houston Community Foundation will distribute resources to local nonprofit 501c3 organizations at the direction of the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund Advisory Committee. Citizens will receive services, support and resources from the local nonprofit organizations.
How will Greater Houston Community Foundation use the money donated to the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund?
Steve Maislin, CEO of the Greater Houston Community Foundation, explains that a committee of business and community leaders will approve grants as they are sent out. Immediate efforts will include grants for housing, clothing, and transportation for those affected by Hurricane Harvey. The GHCF has helped in the aftermath of Tropical Storm Allison in 2001, Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and Hurricane Ike in 2008. Can I donate more than the $10 from my event ticket?
Additional donations beyond the $10 minimum can be added by selecting the "Donation only" or "Yoga participant + donation greater than $10" ticket options in this Eventbrite and will also be taken in cash on the day of the event.
What's the difference between the "Yoga Participant" and "Donation Only" ticket options?
Proceeds from all three ticket options will be donated directly to Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund. The "Yoga Participant + minimum $10 donation" ticket option secures your spot at the yoga event with the suggested donation of $10 minimum. If you would like to take the class and also donate more than $10, select the "Yoga Participant + donation greater than $10" option and enter any amount.
The "Donation Only" ticket option is a way to donate to the relief fund but does not reserve a spot for you at the yoga event. You can use the "Donation Only" option if you can't attend but still want to help the cause.
Do I need to bring my own yoga mat?
Yes, you will need to supply your own yoga mat for the event.
Are there minimum age requirements to participate in the yoga class?
Yoga participants 13 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
